Anam AI: Spiritual Direction

Safety & Scope

Effective date: 23/05/2026

App name: Anam AI: Spiritual Direction

Contact: scribblingtheology@gmail.com

Anam AI: Spiritual Direction is designed for contemplative spiritual reflection. It can help users slow down, reflect, pray, notice patterns, and explore spiritual questions in a gentle and non-clinical way.

Anam AI is not a substitute for professional mental health care, counselling, medical advice, emergency support, or pastoral care from a qualified person.

1. What Anam AI is for

Anam AI may help with:

  • contemplative spiritual reflection
  • prayerful journalling
  • noticing emotions, desires, and spiritual themes
  • reflecting on Scripture, faith, and formation
  • exploring spiritual practices
  • gentle prompts for stillness, prayer, and discernment
  • non-clinical spiritual encouragement

Anam AI is intended to support reflection. It does not replace real human care, spiritual direction, therapy, medical care, or emergency support.

2. What Anam AI is not for

Anam AI is not designed to provide:

  • emergency support
  • suicide prevention intervention
  • self-harm intervention
  • mental health diagnosis
  • counselling or psychotherapy
  • medical advice
  • legal advice
  • abuse reporting
  • child protection reporting
  • clinical risk assessment
  • crisis monitoring
  • pastoral authority or sacramental care
  • replacement for a qualified spiritual director, pastor, priest, counsellor, doctor, or emergency responder

3. Crisis and immediate danger

If you may harm yourself or someone else, or if you are in immediate danger, stop using the app and seek real-time human help now.

Call your local emergency number, go to the nearest emergency department, or contact a crisis line in your country.

This chat is not monitored in real time. Anam AI cannot contact emergency services, a friend, family member, pastor, counsellor, doctor, or anyone else on your behalf.

4. Self-harm and suicide-related language

If Anam AI detects language related to suicide, self-harm, harm to others, abuse, or immediate danger, it may interrupt the normal spiritual reflection flow and show crisis guidance or regional support resources.

This is not a clinical assessment. It is a safety precaution.

Anam AI may sometimes misunderstand what a user means. If you are unsafe, do not wait for the app to respond correctly. Seek immediate help from emergency services or someone near you.

5. Spiritual reflection and safety

Anam AI should not encourage users to remain in unsafe situations.

It should not tell users to stay silent about abuse, submit to harm, hide suicidal thoughts, avoid professional care, or rely only on prayer when urgent human support is needed.

Spiritual reflection can be meaningful, but it must not replace practical safety, medical care, counselling, or qualified pastoral support.

6. Theological and spiritual limitations

Anam AI may generate responses about theology, Scripture, prayer, and spiritual formation, but it can be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate.

Do not treat Anam AI as a final authority on doctrine, pastoral care, personal decisions, or spiritual discernment.

Where possible, bring significant questions to trusted human guides, such as a qualified spiritual director, pastor, priest, counsellor, theologian, doctor, or mentor.

7. Sensitive personal information

Users may choose to share personal, emotional, spiritual, or sensitive information with Anam AI.

Only share what you are comfortable entering into the app.

For information about how data is collected, processed, stored, shared, or deleted, please read the Privacy Policy.

8. Age guidance

Anam AI is intended for users aged 16 and over.

If you are under 16, you should not use Anam AI.

If you are 16 or older but under the age of majority in your country or region, you should use Anam AI only with appropriate parent or guardian involvement where required by local law.

9. Human support matters

Anam AI is a tool, not a relationship.

Spiritual direction, pastoral care, counselling, and friendship involve real human presence, accountability, wisdom, and care. Anam AI can support reflection, but it should not become the only place where you bring serious struggles.

If something feels too heavy to carry alone, please tell a real person.
